The Treaties provide for the possibility of  leaving the EU. What lies ahead of us now is the process of negotiating a new relationship. The Union is prepared for this process. Poland stands ready to seek the best solutions for future UK-EU relations. We are open when it comes to the scope and nature of an agreement regulating the relationship between Great Britain and the EU in the future, whilst also underlining that such a deal should be pragmatic  and beneficial to all sides.

In this context we want to assure the EU citizens, including Poles, who live and work in Great Britain that during the talks with the British partners on a future agreement with the EU we will aim for a solution that guarantees the rights such EU citizens have acquired.

The negative result of the UK referendum does not bring into question the European project. It is imperative that we reform the EU by cutting red tape, increasing the democratic legitimacy of its decisions, and better adapting it to new challenges. Poland plays and will continue to play an active part in this process. We should act together now to forestall any further divisions in the EU.

The UK remains an important partner of Poland. We believe in constructive cooperation on the European stage in the areas of common interest to both our countries. We have a shared view on key issues on the European and international agenda, including security, which takes on special significance on the eve of NATO's Warsaw summit. An important role in developing bilateral relations is played by the presence in Great Britain of a large group of Poles, who are making a considerable contribution to the UK's economic, social and cultural life.
